V1 = base verb (play), V2 = past form (played), V3 = past participle (played), V-ing = playing. Use since with a point of time (since Monday, since 2020) and for with a length of time (for two hours).

Easy way to remember
- Simple — a habit, a fact, or one finished action.
- Continuous — the action is going on (-ing).
- Perfect — the action is complete (has/had/will have + V3).
- Perfect continuous — the action started earlier and is still going on for some time (been + -ing + since/for).
